Justin de Leon

Assistant Professor at Chapman University

 

Justin de Leon is an Assistant Professor at Chapman University and has taught at the University of Notre Dame and UC San Diego. He earned his Ph.D. in international relations with a focus on feminist theory and indigeneity and is currently writing a book Resurgent Visual Sovereignty, about Indigenous filmmaking practice. He has published on creative sovereignty, Native youth and peacebuilding, militarization and powwows, and decolonial and community-based research methods. As a filmmaker and co-director of the Creative Sovereignty Lab, de Leon’s films have been screened at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American Indian, ImagineNATIVE Film Festival, and the International First Peoples’ Festival.
