Amelia Schafer is the Indigenous Affairs reporter for ICT and the Rapid City Journal. She is of Wampanoag and Montauk-Brothertown Indian Nation descent. Born and raised in Iowa, Schafer graduated from Simpson College in 2022 as a first-generation college student. In 2023, Schafer obtained her master's degree in Investigative Journalism from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism in Chicago. After this, she moved to Rapid City to work in her current position. Schafer has written a variety of investigative stories, news stories, and feature articles.
