FEED HOPE. GROW SOVEREIGNTY.

Food insecurity remains a critical challenge on Pine Ridge, exacerbated by potential disruptions to federal food assistance programs. Many families are struggling to access essentials.

  • Over 60% of households do not have enough food to last for 10 days,

  • while 20% have food for only 3-5 days.

Through our Demonstration Farm, we’re providing affordable eggs and expanding local food production to make nutritious food accessible for all.

Our food systems work

Rooted in Lakota values, Thunder Valley CDC is a community-led organization empowering our people through sustainable solutions. Our team—made up mostly of local Lakota members—is working to overcome food insecurity by restoring access to land, growing our own food, and keeping it within our community.

🌾 Lakota Land Systems Initiative:

Launched in 2024, the LLS Initiative strengthens the well-being of our people and our homelands through ecological practices, buffalo monitoring, education, and advocacy—building a healthier, more self-sustaining future.
